In his preface to Prometheus Unbound he roughly compares Prometheus, stealer of fire for the purpose of elevating humankind to the level of gods, to Satan, who offers to Eve the divine knowledge of Good and Evil. He’s a master of the form, and I love to hear it read well.
The one verlornee I can remember from the book that I thought was strange was the description of the cosmic battle between the forces of good and evil included weapons of war that reflected 15th century technology. What makes Biblio different?

They lose their seriousness and allegorical power when Adam and Eve have mundane conversations like characters in a sitcom. Catching up on Cl I may read it and find I enjoy it more. One of Satan’s most important ‘features’ as a character in PL is his unrest in seeking revenge. It’s a weird tendency in the Christian world: Marked by Milton’s characteristic erudition, Paradise Lost is a work epic both in scale and, notoriously, in ambition.

I find no great epiphanies in it, or milon inspiration. Can it be sin to know, Can it be death? But I did enjoy reading Milton’s version of the devil, he was a fascinating yet mklton character!
