While there’s plenty of technical info, what really photogrpahy this book so worth reading for me as an amateur photographer was it’s focus pun intended on photographic seeing and using photography to capture a mood, an emotion, a sensation.

Where were I from this book all these years? Good book, a little heavy. Perhaps, at least in the beginning, the toneBruce talks disparagingly of beginners, people adhering to rules of composition, technically adept people, pretty much everyone who does not take what Bruce considers to be a pure approach; yet, in Chapter 17, Bruce becomes human and admits than lack of control over the visualization of the image zrt be useful. I’m sure no matter what experince you already have, this book will inspire you and add to you more. Without talking down to anyone, or talking over anyone’s head, Barnbaum presents “how to” techniques for both traditional and digital approaches.
It’s perseverance and a few related traits that, in the view of Bruce Barnbaum, enable creativity. I enjoyed very much the analysis of many things creative and technical regarding film photography.
